About
How it started
I spent twelve years in London advertising agencies, big ones and small ones. On most accounts there were three people between the client and whoever was doing the work, and I always thought it should be simpler than that.
What I loved through all of it was brand: shaping one, building the system that holds it together, getting it out into the world properly, and making life easier for the people who have to live with it.
When I was made redundant, the obvious move was another agency job. I went full-time on Studio Squeeze instead, working with in-house teams.
Since then I’ve seen how much those teams carry that the rest of the business doesn’t notice. Brand work never arrives at a convenient moment. A team might want someone senior in the room before a rebrand starts, or help shaping the rebrand itself. Or an agency has handed over the guidelines, and the in-house team is left with months of rollout. Other times there’s no rebrand at all, just more launches than people to make them. And some smaller companies have no creative team, only a marketing lead with everything going through them and the actual marketing getting done in the evenings.
I’ve set the studio up so a team can bring me in at whichever of those points they need. You work with me directly, alongside a few senior freelancers I’ve worked with for a long time.
A bit more
The studio works with teams across the UK, the US and Canada, and I’m based in Winchester, England, with my wife Poppy and our two boys, Bobby and Finley. They’re a big part of why I do this.
